Coming Soon New Book Release For May

Trials and Tribulations of a Blind Date

The Art of Embellishing Molly Whalen
Shay Mohan always thought honesty was the best policy and you treat people the way you want to be treated. And yet every relationship she had left her feeling burned until Zoe, her friend, took matters into her own hands and signed her up on an online dating site. Things begin to heat up when the 'White Knight' appears but is he really who he says he is or just blowing smoke?

Unexpected Blind Date by Joanne Rawson
If any of Grace Worthing's friends dared to suggest she should go on a blind date, her answer would have been, "Blind dates are so tacky; they are definitely for the desperate." She was so over men! After her fifth Sex on the Beach cocktail she told friends she would never have sex again, let alone have sex on a beach. Then, somewhere between her second and third tequila slammer, Grace found herself, agreeing to meet Adrian. Little did she know how interesting and unexpected her blind date would be.

How A Night Unfolds by Molly Whalen
Quinn Hancock had it all, a life that everyone dreams of, but few are able to attain. She was what you called a "triple threat," brains, beauty, and financially successful, but none of those things kept her warm at night. She thought a change of scenery to the windy city may be just the thing to breathe life back into her love life. When her friend tries to fix her up on a blind date with a business associate, Quinn quickly figures out the difference between a blind date and being blindsided.

Old Newspaer Interview - With the Burton Mail

Sorting through some old files on my lap top i found an old interview from my local paper in England. This was when For Better or For Worse was first published back in October 2011 by an e-book publisher. From this followed an interview with BBC Radio Derby. I was fortunate then to be taken on by an American Publisher Melange Books, who re-published it this year.

Joanne's lifestyle change turns out to be For Better
by HELEN KREFT  October  1 2011
A FORMER Swadlincote woman who swapped the dark clouds of Derbyshire for the culture of East Asia has just penned her first book.
Joanne Rawson

Joanne Rawson was born and brought up in Blackfordby and also taught at Pingle School, in Coronation Street, Swadlincote, before giving it all up to split her time between Goa and Malaysia.

The 45-year-old has now written her first novel ‘For Better or For Worse’ — a love story about the trials and tribulations of three ordinary women.

Before she left the UK, Mrs Rawson attended Albert Village Primary and Junior School, in Occupation Lane, and later attended Ashby Ivanhoe High School, and then Ashby Grammar School.

After leaving Ashby Grammar she completed A-levels in sociology, psychology and social and economic history at Burton College.

In 1984, the then 19-year-old left the comfort of Blackfordby but returned a year later after working as an au pair in the Loire Valley, France.

She then worked for Derbyshire Education Authority in special needs as a teaching assistant at Pingle School before moving to Derby in 1992, working for Derbyshire Social Services, with adults with learning and physical difficulties.

When she turned 30, Mrs Rawson and her husband quit their jobs to manage branded restaurants around the M25 for 10 years.

In 2005, the couple decided to give up their hectic lifestyle, and now share their time betwen Candolim, Goa, and Pangkor Island, Malaysia.

Now, she has embarked on a new ambition putting her creative talents at the forefront.

She said: "It had always been a childhood dream to write a book, so when I left work and had time on my hands, I sat down and began to write For Better or For Worse. The book took 18 months to write, then the daunting task ahead of submitting to publishers.

"Hours on the internet told me that the traditional book publishing would be of no use to me. Publishers only want known authors or celebrities.

"This was when I discovered e-books, the new up and coming way for new authors to get themselves published and known.

"I submitted my book to abook2read and in July of this year, was accepted for publication on their e-book website.

"I have attempted to keep the book true to life, situations that could arise in any relationship or family unit, not just sadness, but love and humour too that all women and even men can relate too some part of their life."

*****

4 of 5 stars

Read in April, 2013

I really enjoyed this book and some of the stories in it. There was only one story that I didn't like and that was the one that had about the robot baby.

That is the only one that I didn't like. If it wasn't for that one I would give this book five stars.

Thank you Crystal for your review.

Glad to be back in the sunshine

After the cold snow in England, glad to be in the warm sun in Goa.

Had great plans for this week, to get at least half-way through my short story, and a couple of chapters on my book.  However, had a stinking cold and a tummy bug. This morning i thought, enough is enough, got out my yoga mat and did a good hour and a half of yoga.  Feeling 100%  fighting fit.  Back to work writing tomorrow.
