A very well-written, satisfying read. 4/5 Coming Home For Christmas

4.0 out of 5 stars Love st Christmas February 9, 2015
Sophie and her young daughter return from Malaysia after the death of her husband and the end of an unhappy marriage. She rents a home in the small English town where she grew up and plans to rebuild her life. On one of her first days home, she meets Thomas, who her mother recommended to help her renovate and decorate her new home. They fall in love.

This is a sweet, romantic story. I hesitate to use the word “sweet,” because it has come to be a code for “no explicit sex” (opposite of “steamy”), and in that sense, “sweey”is definitely not applicable.

The book is sweet because it concerns two lovable people who have had bad marriages, who suddenly find each other, and who find that they are perfect together. The reader falls in love with Sophie and Thomas and roots for them to be happy. We watch their relationship develop from one of near hostility to one of love. It is a very well-written, satisfying read. There is sex, but it is gentle and loving, and it does not overpower the underlying story.

I really think that the author has a story worthy of a full-length book. The relationships among the member of Sophie’s family, Thomas’s relationship to his former wife, the relationships among their children, all of these deserve to be explored and I wish that she would take the opportunity to expand on what she has written. I believe she could do it justice.
